Meeting on the introduction of AIS on the Ukrainian section of the Danube SE “UKRVODSHLIAH” on June 12-th, 2025, held an online meeting on the introduction of automatic identification system (AIS) on the Danube with the participation of representatives of the “UkrRIS-Danube” project and experts from “RIS-COMEX2” and the european company PERISCAL. During the meeting, practical issues were discussed on the building of a network of AIS base stations on the Ukrainian section of the Danube for the implementation of the “UkrRIS-Danube” project. European experts provided further information on the technical means and procedures currently used by the RIS of the Danube countries to transmit Notices to Skippers (NtS), as well as the use of VDES (VHF Data Exchange System) for information exchange in inland navigation. “RIS-COMEX2” representatives made a presentation on the construction of AIS base stations system and a network of stations for differential correction of GNSS signals using the experience of Germany and the Netherlands. The meeting discussed issues regarding the procedures and features of the practical passage of a NtS from the moment the message is transmitted by the RIS operator to its receipt by the skipper, the features of transmitting large messages, the possibility of using voice messages, as well as the use of NtS by skippers taking into account the region of the vessel navigation and other issues regarding implementation of AIS. The results of the meeting will be taken into account during the implementation of the “UkrRIS-Danube” project.
