Joint meeting of representatives of the “UkrRIS-Danube” project with a CESNI expert on the application of Inland ENC during the project implementation

On February 6, 2025, the State Enterprise “UKRVODSHLYAKH” organized and held a meeting on the application of electronic charts for inland navigation during the implementation of the “UkrRIS-Danube” project. From the side of the “UkrRIS-Danube” project took place representatives of the State Enterprise "UKRVODSHLYAKH", the branch "Ukrmorkartography" of the State Hydrographic Service of Ukraine and PJSC "Ukrainian Danube Shipping". On behalf of the European Committee for the Development of Standards in the Field of Inland Navigation (CESNI) participated in the meeting Mr. Gert Morlion – Head of the Inland ECDIS Working Group of CESNI, member of the group on harmonization of ECDIS in inland navigation and liaison with the International Hydrographic Organization, who is a leading expert on the implementation of electronic cartography on European inland waterways. The meeting discussed issues related to the practical implementation of the UkrRIS-Danube Project in terms of the introduction of electronic charts for inland navigation and the issue of displaying information on charts for inland navigation, as well as the features of using electronic charts on sections of the Danube River with maritime navigation conditions. Particular attention was paid to the prospects for the implementation of new electronic chart standards for inland navigation by CESNI and the International Hydrographic Organization. “Ukrmorkartography” is already working on the introduction of new chart standards and will be ready to provide users with them by the end of this year. As the introduction of new standards will be associated with an additional financial burden on users, it is planned to hold consultations with users within the framework of the Project implementation to take into account their interests and possibilities. After discussing these issues within the Project and at the CESNI level, it was decided to hold a second meeting to discuss issues related to the status of preparation of new standards electronic chart for inland navigation and the timing of their introduction.
