On January 30, 2025, the 2nd Stakeholder Workshop for review and update of the Joint Statement on the Guiding Principles for the Development of Inland Navigation and Environmental Protection in the Danube River Basin (from version JS to version JS 2) was held in Budapest at the building of the Danube Commission. The Workshop was attended by representatives of the Danube Commission (DC), the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR), the International Sava River Basin Commission (Sava Commission), the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport of the European Union (DG MOVE), and representatives of the Danube countries. Captain Illya Tykhonov participated in the Ukrainian delegation at the Seminar from the SE "UKRVODSHIAH". The Workshop discussed in detail the proposals and comments for the update of the current Joint Statement on the Guidelines (JS). The main content of the proposed changes for JS 2 is devoted to the development of inland navigation, an integrated River Corridor Management approach for enhancing navigation on European inland waterways, and environmental protection in the Danube and Sava river basins. These areas are directly related to the objectives of the “UkrRIS-Danube” project. The authors of the changes to JS also provided proposals for measures to support river aquatic ecosystems and renew agriculture, as well as for the development of tourism, recreation and fishing.
